China News Service, Hefei, China, March 12 (Reporter Wu Lan) The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Hefei Institute of Materials Science and Technology reported on the 12th that scientific researchers and collaborators of the Institute have for the first time implemented graphene-based terahertz stress modulators.
The research results were recently published in the internationally renowned academic journal "Advanced Optical Materials."
Terahertz, generally refers to sub-millimeter electromagnetic waves with frequencies between 1011-1013. Because of its superior spectral performance, terahertz-related technologies have a wide range of applications in areas such as communications, security, sensing, and national security, and are known as "one of the top ten technologies in the future."
The terahertz modulator, as a key component of the terahertz application, is currently an important subject in the field of research. In order to realize the modulation effect with high efficiency and low loss, in addition to traditional electrical and optical methods, obtaining a new terahertz modulation path is a scientific problem that needs urgently to be solved.
Researchers through the clever construction of a two-dimensional electronic material based on graphene-based stress modulation device, through the use of self-built terahertz time domain spectrum system. Studies have shown that graphene-based devices have excellent modulation effects such as repeatability, stability, and low insertion loss.
Researcher Jackie Chan believes that this regulatory mechanism can be used to prepare high-speed terahertz modulators and has a promising future in terahertz applications. (Finish)
